Basic Facts about Solar Energy
• Solar energy refers to energy that is harnessed from the sun. It is collected through a range of methods.
• A home solar energy system usually includes solar panels, an inverter, a battery, a charge controller, wiring and a support structure.
• There are many uses for solar energy including: electricity production, heating water, drying clothes, heating swimming pools, powering cars, powering calculators, and producing lighting.
• Solar energy is natural and thus better for the environment than other forms of energy.
• Solar energy does not only refer to solar panels, but it also includes wind, biomass, and hydropower. This is due to changes in temperature that create these other forms of energy, which is directly related to the sun.
• The demand for usable solar power is currently greater than the supply.
• Fossil fuels are forms of stored solar energy. Coal, oil and gas formed over thousands of years from decomposed plant matter that grew from the sun’s energy.
